Former PM and BJP stalwart Atal Bihari Vajpayee has died at the AIIMS in Delhi, the hospital said on Thursday. He was 93. The three-time prime minister was admitted to the hospital on 11 June this year in a critical condition and had been at the facility since then. Rain pounds Sullia, Bantwal taluks

Rain continued to play havoc in Sullia and Bantwal taluks of Dakshina Kannada district on August 16, forcing tahsildars of the respective taluks to declare holidays for schools. The Nethravathi and Kumaradhara flowing above the danger level in Bantwal and Subrahmanya. The water-level in Nethravathi stood at 8.6 m against the danger level of 8.5 m.

Rupee hit fresh record low of 70.32 against the US dollar in the opening trade. Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the Centre was in talks with Tamil Nadu to reduce the water level in Mullaperiyar to 139 feet.
